Atacama Salt Lake

Located at aproximately 55 kilometres south from San Pedro de Atacama and at an altitude of 2300 metres above the sea level (m.a.s.l.) is the Atacama Salt Lake, where you will find yourself immerse in an environment full of diverse fauna.

The excursion departs from the different hotels towards the town of Toconao, 35kms south of San Pedro, where we can visit it’s church and ancient bell tower (1750) on the main square, local crafts and Jere Canyon (optional), an oasis in the middle of a canyon with rich vegetation and old fruit orchards. Then we continue towards Chaxa Lagoon, “Los Flamencos” National Reserve in the Atacama Salt Flat, where it is possible to watch flamingos with other birds. Following this, we drive to the north of the Atacama Salt Flat where there are 3 lagoons with extremely salty water. The place is completely flat, which allows spectacular views towards the Andes, Salt and Domeyko mountain ranges, as well as the north and south. The place is protected and you can swim in one of the lagoons.
