Tara Salt Lake

Tara Salt Lake is located some 130 kilometres from San Pedro de Atacama and at an altitude of 4300 metres above the sea level (m.a.s.l.) you will find one of the most marvellous salt lakes of the Chilean Altiplano, Tara, surrounded by huge rocky formations known as Tara Cathedrals.

We pick you up from the diferent hoyels in San Pedro heading towards Paso Jama (Argentian border) 4.750 metres above the sea level (m.a.s.l.), passing Licancabur (5.916 m.a.s.l.) and Juriques (5.740 m.a.s.l.) volcanoes on the south side. After which we continue heading east through the Altiplano, passing by Quepiaco river and Aguas Calientes lagoons until we reach enormous rocky formations called Monjes de la Pakana (4.600 m.a.s.l). At which point we take a path towards other rocky formations called Catedrales de Tara, which surrounds the Tara salt lake, where we have lunch.
